Our mission:
Respite of Hope provides a safe and healing refuge for individuals experiencing homelessness and recovery from illness, injury, or hospitalization. Guided by dignity, compassion, and respect, we offer shelter, supportive care, and access to vital health and social services. In collaboration with our community partners, we walk alongside each guest on their journey to renewed strength, stability, and hope.
Respite of Hope is a medical respite home for unhoused individuals recovering from illness, injury, or hospitalization will open. It will be only the fourth such home in Ohio and a first for the Mahoning Valley. A medical respite home provides short term housing and support for people experiencing homelessness who are too ill to recover on the streets or in a shelter, but not sick enough to remain in a hospital. In this healing environment, guests receive safe lodging, nutritious meals, case management, and access to health and social services. Most importantly, they are given dignity, stability, and compassion every human being deserves while regaining their strength.
Respite of Hope will be housed in the Judge Joseph Donofrio Center, a Meridian HealthCare facility. The program will be managed and governed by Catholic Charities Regional Agency and was made possible through the leadership and collaboration of Mercy Health, the Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley, the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, the Ursuline Sisters, and private donors who share a vision of compassionate care for the most vulnerable among us.
This project represents a vital collaboration between health care and social service providers to fill a critical gap in the local continuum of care.
